ABOUT US
Follow is an architecture studio led by Colin and Andrea Ostman. Founded in 2018, we built Follow on the belief that we experience life most fully when we are aware of and immersed in the environment around us. Our goal is to create homes that do just that.
From our studio in Boulder, Colorado, we design homes that inspire a conversation between architecture and ecosystem. We mirror this exchange in our working relationships, collaborating closely and communicating openly with our clients throughout our projects.
We take care to consider the unique qualities of each place and person we work with. The unexpected elements we find shape the story we tell, allowing us to craft the right home for every site and situation.
As a husband and wife team, we know that there’s no place more personal than home. Designing them is a privilege that we both take to heart as we support our clients on the journey ahead.
THE TEAM
Andrea Ostman
A childhood spent on her father’s construction sites in Colorado and Wisconsin gave Andrea her first window into the built environment. What began as an early fascination with floor plans and a natural eye for design ultimately led her to study environmental design at CU Boulder, and onto architecture projects across healthcare, commercial, and hospitality. Thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail with Colin in 2014 brought clarity to her practice: creating unique spaces that connect people to nature. Andrea went on to work for John Maniscalco in San Francisco, and trained under Rick Joy, Peter Stutchbury, and Richard Leplastrier in an immersive course in Woodstock, VT. Since establishing Follow (previously Amble) in 2018, Andrea has continued to provide a depth of curiosity, creativity, technical knowledge, and eye for rich materiality to each project.
Colin ostman
Growing up immersed in the Sierra Foothills of California, Colin’s deep appreciation for the outdoors was formed over winters spent snowboarding and summers camping, hiking, and four-wheeling. His sharp eye for details and passion for precise, technical craft set him on a path of building with intention. After studying environmental design at CU Boulder, Colin joined Olson Kundig in Seattle to work under Tom Kundig. For him, thru-hiking the Pacific Crest Trail with Andrea sharpened his resolve to create a practice that pushes beyond what’s expected. He gained additional experience designing high-end residential homes in San Francisco before founding Follow (previously Amble) in Boulder in 2018. Colin brings an exceptionally high level of craft to the practice, leaving no detail unresolved, and his personal experience with building enables an ability to guide each project to completion with unmatched quality.
TESTIMONIALS
"Colin and Andrea have an amazing ability to come up with a big picture vision that highlights the best features of the very unique/challenging property. I like how their style is modern without feeling stark or sterile, and how they can design a one of a kind home without making it an odd or niche product. The homes they design are really architecturally stunning, but also practical and functional spaces to live in."
